2007: Arlington - Darrington, WA. and area
In February I accompanied Jeri on a trip to Arlington, WA. She was talking a training class there and I thought if the town was large enough to host state certified training then it be be sizeable with a lot to do. What a disappointment! The business district was maybe three blocks long and one black wide. Nothing opened until later in the day. A milk can was the center piece for the town park (it wasn't big enough to have a town square).
Enroute to Arlington, WA on Interstate 5
Downtown Arlington, WA
I decided to hit the highway and drive into the Cascades for adventure and to pass the time
I came across an Eagle on a rock searching for prey, I couldn't get close enough for a clear photo though.
Coming back from Darrington this caught my eye. A swatch was cut through a stand of trees where they had been broken off several feet off the ground (above photo right) Trees several feet away from this section (above photo right) were left untouched.
I traveled down a dirt road to investigate. As I got out of my car to investigate something in the distance caught my eye.
It looked like a passenger train in the middle of nowhere!
I had to investigate. It obviously had been abandoned for a very long time. Even the tracks were gone, except for the tracks under these two cars.
Spokane, Portland and Seattle Railway
There was an abandoned decaying house nearby too. Had it not been for the bizare breakage on the trees in that area I would have never found the train and the house.
